 David Roberts – little bio

Mark West has been writing fiction since the age of eight, when he discovered that the stories he made up continuing the adventures of “Star Wars” (which had just been released in the UK) and “The Six Million Dollar Man” entertained his friends. He first began publishing in the horror small press in 1999 and, to date, has seen over one hundred short stories, a novel and several novellas appear. One of these, DRIVE, was shortlisted for the British Fantasy Society Award and that marked a shift into dark thrillers. His first, DON’T GO BACK, was published by The Book Folks in 2022 and, since then, six more novels have appeared – ONLY WATCHING YOU, THE HUNTER’S QUARRY, STILL WATERS RUN, A KILLER AMONGST US, WE WERE SEEN and TO SEE TOO MUCH.

His latest novel, HER DARK SECRET, will be published in summer 2026 and he’s currently working on his ninth thriller, the start of a series.

David and Mark have known one another since 1992 and Mark often used David as a sounding board for plots and ideas. Since both enjoyed the process, when he decided to start writing thrillers, Mark suggested they meet for a weekly walk – what became known as their Friday Night Walks, along with David’s dog Pippa – to chat through plots and other creative activities. The natural progression, of course, was to take the means of production into their own hands and so Friday Night Books was formed.
